Dr. Jennifer Mahon
A fluid artist, dancer and veterinary criticalist, Jen brings science and creativity together in all parts of her life. Dance is just her most recent artistic endeavor involving physical strength and coordination, following a successful stint in powerlifting that brought her to the Women’s Pro-Am in 2022. Creating art through breath has been a source of joy and growth as she continues to explore the possibilities for larger works and collaborations within those works with other artists. As a DVM she cares deeply about her four footed patients and doesn’t shy away from decision-making that she feels will bring the most benefit to those in her care. She teaches regularly for veterinary programs at various universities and 18Hz Arts Collective is incredibly grateful for her willingness to share her time and expertise as part of our events. Jen lives in Charleston, SC with an opinionated cat and is an over-the-road mom-to-chickens with her partner in TN.
April Neander
In addition to interpreting and contextualizing data from the CT scanner in her lab at the University of Chicago, April is an accomplished scientific illustrator and PaleoArtist. She has most recently begun working with 3D printing in metal and lucite, using CT scan data to create sculptures that diffuse ambient light and contain direct lighting within them. A two time recipient of the Lanzendorf – National Geographic PaleoArt Prize, her ability to distill complex concepts and data into clear visual information is greatly sought after. She founded and hosts the PaleoArt meetups during the annual Society of Vertebrate Paleontology conference and is also a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. April lives with her partner in Chicago, IL where she maintains a backyard garden and is co-parent to two cats.
